State Housing Company targets nearly 600 units in 2027 as Surge Homes project opens

The State Housing Company Limited is targeting the delivery of nearly 600 housing units in 2027, its Managing Director John Bawah has said, as the developer opened its 195-unit Surge Homes project at Amrahia in the Greater Accra Region.

The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) is targeting the delivery of nearly 600 housing units in 2027 to help address Ghana's growing housing deficit, its Managing Director, Mr John Bawah, has disclosed.

He said the company had about 300 housing units in the pipeline for 2026 and was expanding its operations nationwide to increase the supply of homes for different income groups. Mr Bawah was speaking at the open house ceremony for the company's 195-unit Surge Homes development at Amrahia in the Greater Accra Region.

He said SHC was repositioning itself as a leading housing developer while supporting the government's efforts to address the housing challenge through increased supply and improved access to affordable mortgage financing, adding that demand for housing continues to grow and is putting pressure on available stock, particularly in urban areas.

The company is expanding its project portfolio, including a housing project in Kumasi expected to deliver about 1,000 units, with other projects under way in Tamale, Cape Coast and Takoradi and plans to extend operations to newly created regions. Mr Bawah said SHC was committed to providing homes for high-income earners, the middle class, lower-middle-income earners and low-income households.

He noted that declining interest rates had created opportunities for prospective homeowners, with mortgage rates that previously stood at about 25 per cent falling to between 12 and 13 per cent in some cases, while repayment periods extended to 20 years. Ongoing road infrastructure projects under the government's Big Push initiative were also expected to improve access to the estate and other parts of the capital.

The Head of Commercial at SHC, Mr Agyekum Sampong, said the company was offering a five per cent discount on selected two- and three-bedroom houses to prospective homeowners who completed payment by December 15, 2026. He said SHC was collaborating with Ecobank, Fidelity Bank, Absa Bank and Republic Bank to provide flexible financing and mortgage options, and offered buyers assurance against land litigation with free property documentation.
