Senegal construction turnover falls 22.1% in second quarter of 2026

Senegal's construction industry turnover dropped 22.1% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, with specialised construction activities down 38.7% and civil engineering down 29.0%, according to the national statistics agency ANSD.
Senegal's construction industry turnover fell by 22.1% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, driven by declines in building construction, civil engineering and specialised construction activities, according to the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).
The contraction is captured by the Construction Turnover Index (ICAC), which uses a base of 100 in 2016 and measures changes in the value of invoiced work across real estate development, building construction and specialised construction activities. The index stood at 76.6 in the second quarter of 2026, down from 98.3 a year earlier, the lowest level in the series since it began in the second quarter of 2019.
Specialised construction activities recorded the sharpest decline, falling 38.7% year on year and dragged down by a 36.9% drop in installation work and a 77.7% fall in other specialised construction activities. Civil engineering turnover contracted by 29.0% over the same period.
Building construction turnover fell by 11.9%. Within that sub-sector, turnover from building construction for third parties declined by 17.0%, while turnover from real estate development rose by 31.7%, partially offsetting the overall decline.
For the first six months of 2026, construction sector turnover was down 10.2% compared with the same period in 2025. The ANSD said the indicators were compiled with a coverage rate of 81.6% and that the data are analysed on a year-on-year basis, as seasonally adjusted indices have not yet been calculated.
