Northern Kenya is set for one of its biggest housing investments since Independence. President William Ruto says more than Ksh45 billion will fund affordable housing projects across three historically underserved counties.
Kenya is expanding its affordable housing programme into the north after President William Ruto announced more than Ksh45 billion in housing investments for Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir counties. The initiative is being positioned as one of the region’s largest housing commitments since Independence.
The projects form part of a wider strategy to stimulate economic growth, improve living conditions, and address long-standing development gaps in Northern Kenya. The housing investment complements major infrastructure plans, including the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project and the Isiolo-Mandera road corridor. Together, the projects are expected to reshape connectivity, attract investment, and support urban growth across the region.
