Republic Bank Ghana targets 40-42% mortgage market share by end of 2026

Written on

Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC is aiming to lift its share of Ghana's mortgage market to between 40 and 42 per cent by the end of 2026, up from more than 38 per cent now.

Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC is targeting between 40 and 42 per cent of Ghana's mortgage market by the end of 2026, as it seeks to rebuild its position in the country's housing finance sector.

The bank's Managing Director, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, disclosed the target in an interview on Joy FM's Personality Profile programme on Thursday, September 17, 2026. He said the bank currently holds more than 38 per cent of the mortgage market and intends to build on that position through a renewed focus on mortgage lending.

Dr Dzoboku said the renewed drive reflects a decision to reconnect with the bank's original mandate as a mortgage finance institution before it evolved into a full-service commercial bank. Republic Bank said in January 2026 that it planned to reconfigure its mortgage operations around digital verification, shorter processing times and advisory services for homeowners and property investors.

Its current mortgage range covers home purchase, home equity, home completion, home improvement, buy-build-and-own, pension-backed, executive, switch and land mortgages. Published rates are 18 per cent per annum fixed for cedi mortgages and 11.5 per cent per annum for US dollar mortgages, with tenors of up to 20 years and 15 years respectively.

The push comes after the National Homeownership Fund announced in August 2026 that lending under the National Mortgage Scheme would resume at an interest rate of 8.4 per cent, following a review carried out with Republic Bank. The bank is also expanding the Republic Bank JoyNews Habitat Fair, which connects prospective homeowners with developers and lenders; the next edition runs from September 25 to 27, 2026 at Junction Mall in Nungua, with the platform extending to Accra, Kumasi and Ho.
