Action Peoples Movement candidate Bimbo Adekanmbi has promised to settle outstanding compensation for property owners affected by the Ibadan Circular Road project within 100 days if elected.
Bimbo Adekanmbi, the Action Peoples Movement candidate in Oyo State's governorship race, has pledged to review records and settle any outstanding compensation for property owners affected by the Ibadan Circular Road project within his first 100 days in office if elected.
Speaking during an interview on Fresh FM, Ibadan, Adekanmbi said he had engaged residents whose properties were affected by the project and had appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to ensure the outstanding compensation was paid in full.
"The compensation is huge, but I met personally with Governor Makinde and appealed to him, and he has promised to pay the compensation in full," he said, adding that he would check the file again and pay anyone still outstanding.
He defended the Circular Road project, arguing that it was conceived by previous administrations, including its setback provisions, before the Makinde government began implementation. He did not disclose the number of affected property owners who had been paid or the outstanding compensation balance.
The remarks come amid concern among residents over land acquisition, compensation and the effect of the project on their properties and livelihoods.
Adekanmbi also pledged to retain the 25th of every month as the salary payment date for state workers, rehabilitate internal roads, strengthen operations at the upgraded Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan and work with the federal government to revive the Ikere Gorge Dam.
