Mahama Unveils Affordable Housing Plan for Ghana’s Public Workers
Ghana’s teachers, nurses, and civil servants could soon access government-backed affordable homes. The new housing push aims to tackle one of the country’s biggest cost-of-living pressures for public sector workers.
President John Mahama has announced a new affordable housing initiative targeting teachers, nurses, and civil servants across Ghana.
The plan, revealed during May Day celebrations, is expected to expand access to homeownership for public sector employees struggling with rising housing costs.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to address Ghana’s housing deficit while improving welfare conditions for essential workers. If implemented at scale, the programme could also stimulate local construction activity and create demand for new residential developments nationwide.
Mahama added that the housing scheme will be developed alongside labour-focused economic reforms aimed at easing financial pressure on workers.
