Kenya Court Halts US Ebola Facility Plan

Written on

A Kenyan court has suspended a controversial US-backed Ebola facility before a key hearing next week. The decision follows growing concerns over public health risks and constitutional violations.

A Kenyan court has temporarily stopped plans to host a US-supported Ebola treatment facility at Laikipia airbase pending a hearing scheduled for June 2. The project was intended to accommodate Americans exposed to Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

The suspension follows a legal challenge by the Katiba Institute, which argues the initiative could pose public health risks and may violate constitutional safeguards. The court has also barred the entry of individuals who have tested positive for Ebola or had contact with infected persons until a final ruling is made. The case is drawing international attention as Kenya weighs public safety concerns against global health cooperation efforts.
