Kaduna land agency restores more than 150 revoked titles and resolves inherited disputes

The Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) says it has resolved more than 5,000 land disputes and restored over 150 land titles that were revoked under previous administrations. The Director-General of KADGIS, Dr Bashir Garba Ibrahim, disclosed this at a town hall meeting in Kaduna.

Ibrahim said Governor Uba Sani had directed the agency to resolve outstanding land disputes inherited from previous administrations, and that KADGIS had introduced reforms aimed at making land administration more transparent and efficient in the state.

According to him, the reforms include the registration and accreditation of land agents and the use of National Identification Numbers (NIN) and Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) in land title processing.

The director-general said communities displaced at Alhudahuda in Zaria, following the demolition of 92 houses in 2015, had been provided with alternative plots. He also said the long-running dispute between the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria and the Graceland community had been resolved, after more than 200 properties were demolished in the community in 2021 over alleged land encroachment.

Ibrahim further disclosed that new land titles and alternative plots had been provided to former residents of Malali Low Cost, Kaduna, whose 80 houses were demolished in 2021. He said the land titles of CANES Properties had also been restored, while SCOA had been allocated alternative plots at Kudenden, and that the dispute between Olam and its host community had also been resolved.

He said the town hall meeting, attended by professional bodies, traditional rulers, land agents, government agencies and other stakeholders, was convened to strengthen transparency, efficiency and citizen-centred land administration in Kaduna State.
