HDAN Urges APC to Make Affordable Housing Its Next Empowerment Priority

HDAN says homes could deliver more lasting economic value than phones and laptops as political empowerment tools. The housing advocacy group wants affordable homeownership placed at the centre of Nigeria’s development agenda.
The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to make affordable housing a central part of its empowerment strategy rather than focusing heavily on distributing phones, laptops and other consumer goods. HDAN Executive Director Festus Adebayo argues that homeownership provides longer-term financial security and wealth-building opportunities.
The organisation says housing investment can also generate jobs across construction, manufacturing, logistics, finance and professional services, creating benefits beyond individual homeowners. It argues that expanding access to affordable homes should therefore be treated as an economic development priority alongside stronger mortgage systems, improved land administration and private-sector participation.
If adopted as policy, the approach could make housing a more prominent tool for economic empowerment and wealth creation.
