Growthpoint develops final Meadowdale stand for DPD Laser expansion

Written on

Growthpoint Properties has started work on the last vacant stand at its Growthpoint Industrial Estate in Gauteng, building a purpose-designed facility for logistics tenant DPD Laser on a seven-year lease.

Growthpoint Properties has begun developing the final remaining vacant stand at its Growthpoint Industrial Estate, delivering a purpose-built facility for its logistics tenant DPD Laser. The development will occupy the estate's last remaining vacant site, marking the culmination of a long-term investment in industrial and logistics infrastructure.

The project is driven by the existing tenant's expanding operational needs amid growing e-commerce demand, adding capacity to support its logistics operations while underscoring continued demand for purpose-built industrial space. Commencing in 2008, the roll-out of Growthpoint Industrial Estate has created 85,000m² of gross lettable area of modern logistics and industrial space within one of Gauteng's most active logistics and industrial corridors.

Jason Reeves, head of asset management: logistics and industrial at Growthpoint Properties, says the project represents a significant milestone for the estate while also demonstrating the value of being able to accommodate tenants as their businesses evolve. "After an 18-year development programme, the completion of the final stand, in an essentially fully let logistics and industrial precinct, with lettable floor space equivalent to 13 rugby fields or 450 padel courts, speaks to the long-term success of the estate," says Reeves. He adds that the completion marks the culmination of a long-term vision that has evolved into a mature and fully developed logistics node in line with the group's strategy.

Construction of the new facility began in June 2026 and is scheduled for completion at the end of June 2027, with DPD Laser taking occupation from 1 July 2027 on a seven-year lease. The additional new facility enables DPD Laser to expand its operations in response to growing demand from e-commerce.

DPD Laser currently operates from premises within Growthpoint Industrial Estate, but its existing facility can no longer accommodate the increased demand associated with the growth of e-commerce in South Africa. An adjacent vacant stand within the estate, directly opposite DPD Laser's current facility, provided the opportunity to develop a building specifically around its requirements. Growthpoint said the development for DPD Laser is a particularly meaningful way to conclude the roll-out of the estate, in that it is being driven by the growth of an existing tenant, demonstrating its ability to retain and grow alongside clients.
