Ghana Opens Door to Chinese Developers to Ease Housing Shortage

Ghana’s housing minister says the country is ready to welcome Chinese real estate investors to help tackle its growing housing deficit. The government believes more housing supply could help cool rising rents but insists all projects will face strict regulatory scrutiny.
Ghana is seeking greater foreign participation in its housing sector as the government looks for solutions to the country’s persistent housing shortage. Works, Housing and Water Resources Minister Kenneth Gilbert Agyei said the government is open to Chinese real estate developers and other international investors willing to support housing delivery.
Officials believe expanding the number of developers in the market could increase housing supply and help slow rising rental costs, particularly in major urban centres. However, the government says all projects will undergo regulatory checks, including reviews of funding sources and compliance with Ghana’s building standards.
The push comes as authorities face mounting pressure to reduce the housing deficit while accelerating infrastructure and flood-control projects across the country.
