FG Threatens to Revoke Delayed Renewed Hope Housing Contracts

Written on

Nigeria’s Federal Government is warning contractors behind delayed housing projects that cancellations are coming. Officials say unfinished Renewed Hope Housing estates will no longer be tolerated under the national programme.

The Federal Government has threatened to revoke contracts awarded under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme over delays and poor project execution. The warning came during an inspection of a 250-unit housing estate in Damaturu, Yobe State, where officials said progress remained far below agreed delivery timelines despite billions already committed to the project.

Authorities say the government will enforce stricter monitoring standards and take action against contractors linked to abandoned or substandard developments. The move reflects growing pressure on the administration to deliver affordable housing projects more efficiently amid Nigeria’s widening housing deficit.

Officials also signaled that future housing contracts may face tougher performance benchmarks and oversight requirements nationwide.
