Festac property owners ask Tinubu to intervene in dispute with Federal Housing Authority

Residents and property owners in Festac Extension, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos have asked President Bola Tinubu to intervene in their long-running dispute with the Federal Housing Authority, alleging the agency acted on their properties while the matter is in court.
Residents and property owners in Festac Extension, 6th Avenue, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in their long-running dispute with the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), alleging that the agency has continued to take steps affecting their properties despite the matter being before the court.
The residents urged the President to order and ensure that the authority respects court processes and undertakings in the dispute. An estate developer, Samuel Oladele Ahmed, who spoke on behalf of the affected stakeholders, made the appeal following fresh proceedings at the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja Judicial Division.
The latest development is contained in a Certified True Copy of proceedings in Suit No. ID/13129LMW/2023, instituted by Oba Isaac Owolabi and others against the FHA. At the June 2, 2026 proceedings, the court was informed that while the parties were working towards an amicable settlement, the FHA had issued notices to the claimants, prompting them to approach the court for an interlocutory injunction.
Counsel to the claimants, Chris Okeke, raised concerns over activities allegedly being carried out by the authority while the matter remained pending before the court. In response, counsel representing the FHA informed the court that notices of demolition had been posted, and the FHA subsequently undertook not to demolish the affected properties pending the hearing and determination of the claimants' application. The court recorded the undertaking and adjourned the matter for the hearing of the pending applications.
Ahmed said the development had heightened concerns among affected property owners, who feared that actions taken while the case was pending could affect the subject matter of the dispute. He urged the President to direct the FHA management to respect all subsisting court orders and undertakings, adding that the stakeholders were not opposed to the FHA exercising its statutory responsibilities to protect government property or address illegal developments, but insisted that such powers must be exercised within the confines of the law.
