Eldoret's 2,148-unit Pioneer affordable housing project nears completion

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo says the Pioneer Affordable Housing Project in Eldoret, comprising 2,148 housing units, is entering its final phase of construction as the government responds to housing demand after the town was elevated to city status.

The Pioneer Affordable Housing Project in Eldoret is nearing completion, with construction works entering the final phase, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said in a statement on Monday, October 12.

Omollo said the development, which comprises 2,148 housing units, is part of the government's response to rising housing demand following Eldoret's elevation to city status in August 2024. "Since Eldoret was awarded City status in August 2024, for the past two years, the city has experienced rapid population growth, increasing demand for decent and affordable housing," he said.

Construction is substantially complete, with contractors undertaking the remaining works including landscaping, cabro-paved roads and walkways, swimming pools and lifts. The development comprises 15 residential blocks containing 2,148 housing units, alongside 104 shops, a supermarket, a clinic and a kindergarten to serve residents and the surrounding community.

Additional amenities include a clubhouse, a swimming pool, a basketball court and children's play areas. According to Omollo, the project also incorporates integrated waste-management systems, while its construction has created jobs for local residents and stimulated businesses in the surrounding area.

The announcement follows the government's highlighting of the transformation of the former 63-year-old Anderson-Ofafa Estate in Kisumu into Anderson Park Residence, a mixed-use development implemented through a partnership between the Kisumu County Government and the County Pension Fund LAPTRUST, with construction beginning in July 2024.

Phase 1 of Anderson Park Residence comprises 681 apartments across seven blocks, including 31 one-bedroom, 464 two-bedroom and 186 three-bedroom units, plus 65 retail spaces. Residents are to have access to piped cooking gas, high-speed lifts, backup power, borehole water and fibre connectivity, with a gym and a rooftop residents' lounge, while a swimming pool is planned for Phase 2.
