Real estate developers, property owners, and industry stakeholders have raised formal demands for an independent investigation into the route alignment decisions and compensation processes surrounding the 700-kilometer Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
The call comes amidst growing controversy over the demolition of multi-billion naira residential and commercial developments along the coastal right-of-way, particularly within the prime Lekki and Okun-Ajah corridors in Lagos State.
Stakeholders express serious concern regarding sudden modifications to the original gazetted route, arguing that recent realignments unexpectedly brought previously safe investments into the demolition path while bypassing other developments.
Furthermore, property owners claim that the current compensation payouts disbursed by the Ministry of Works fall significantly short of current market valuations and fail to adequately compensate for structural and business losses.
Industry groups are urging the Federal Government and the National Assembly to institute an independent inquiry to review route selection criteria, ensure full transparency in valuation metrics, and guarantee fair, timely compensation for all impacted landowners.
