How Theresa Oppong-Beeko Rose From $2.5m Debt to Build Manet Housing

After a business failure left her with $2.5m in debt, Theresa Oppong-Beeko retrained, entered real estate in 1994 and built Manet Housing into a developer of more than 1,800 homes in Accra.
At just 25, Theresa Oppong-Beeko faced what could have been the end of her entrepreneurial journey. Her first business venture had collapsed, leaving her with a reported debt of $2.5 million. Rather than allowing the setback to define her future, she returned to school, sharpened her business skills and eventually ventured into real estate.
Oppong-Beeko graduated from the University of Ghana in 1985 with a degree in Political Science and Sociology and later entered the fishing business, which failed and left her with significant financial obligations. She returned to the University of Ghana for an MBA and, in 1990, was named the Best Marketing Student.
In 1994, she established Manet Housing Limited, initially focusing on residential developments including Manet Cottage, Manet Cottage Annex and Manet Gardens at Baatsona, before expanding to areas such as East Airport and East Legon with projects including Manet Ville, Manet Court and Manet Palms. Over the years, Manet has reportedly developed more than 1,800 homes across Accra.
In 1998, she established Manet Hotels Limited and developed the Manet Paradise and Beach Resort in Ada, later founding Manet Construction Limited. One of the group's most notable projects came in 2010 with the commissioning of the Twin Towers in Airport City, a commercial development reportedly costing about $22 million.
Some publications have estimated Oppong-Beeko's net worth at about $420 million, although there is no publicly available independent audit confirming that figure. Her business interests today span residential and commercial real estate, construction and hospitality.
