FMBN Delivers 9,076 Affordable Housing Units to Help Combat Nigeria's Deficit

Written on

A major funding surge from the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria has driven a massive acceleration in low-cost housing builds and individual mortgage loans over the last two years.

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) successfully financed and delivered 9,076 affordable housing units between 2024 and 2025.

Announcing the figures at the Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) 2026 in Abuja, FMBN Managing Director Shehu Usidi Osidi highlighted the bank's aggressive expansion into underserved financial segments, particularly focusing on low-income earners and informal sector workers.

The milestone comes alongside an unprecedented surge in construction financing, with total project loan disbursements jumping from ₦31.5 billion in 2024 to a record ₦79 billion in 2025. Additionally, direct mortgage lending experienced an 86% annual growth rate, providing ₦13.8 billion in funding to over 15,290 primary beneficiaries, while drastically improving the efficiency of National Housing Fund (NHF) capital tracking to keep the localized real estate market active.
