Cantonments and Airport Residential top list of Accra's most expensive neighbourhoods

A review of advertised rents shows Cantonments houses averaging about GH¢71,000 a month and Airport Residential apartments about GH¢40,136, underlining the gulf between Accra's prime and affordable housing markets.
Advertised rents in Accra's prime neighbourhoods run into tens of thousands of cedis a month, with a drive of about 15 minutes from Nima to Cantonments taking the asking price from roughly GH¢350 for a room to an average of GH¢71,000 for a house, according to a GhanaWeb Business review of listings on meQasa.
Cantonments, known for embassies and homes rented by diplomats and company executives, has houses advertised at an average of about GH¢71,000 a month and apartments averaging roughly GH¢34,000. One house is advertised at almost GH¢954,000 a month.
Airport Residential Area, which draws tenants wanting to be close to Kotoka International Airport, Airport City and major corporate offices, has 783 listed apartments averaging GH¢40,136 a month, ranging from modest units to high-end serviced apartments. The area is also among Accra's most expensive places to buy property.
Ridge, which includes North Ridge and West Ridge, retains large older homes close to government offices and the city centre, with apartments averaging GH¢35,831 a month and listings ranging from GH¢3,000 to GH¢230,400. Labone apartments average GH¢33,412, while Dzorwulu apartments average about GH¢22,225 and Osu apartments GH¢10,363.
In East Legon, listed houses average GH¢47,560 a month and apartments GH¢20,406, while the wider Trasacco Valley area has 83 houses listed at an average of GH¢43,033. Adjiringanor's 254 listed houses average GH¢28,285, with asking prices from GH¢4,632 to GH¢140,088.
Airport City, best known for offices and hotels, also has serviced apartments, and larger homes in the wider airport area are estimated to rent for $2,500 to $4,000 a month. The figures reflect what landlords are asking rather than final deals, and rents can differ greatly even on the same street.
